Arthritis - What a Pain!

MSM
For Joint-Pain (MSM is also very beneficial for detoxification)

MSM is an organic source of sulfur which is widely utilized by the body in the formation of connective tissue and in the antioxidant glutathione. Sulfur is essential to good health but is easily destroyed by modern food processing methods resulting in widespread deficiencies. It is structurally and functionally important to more than 150 compounds in the body including enzymes, hormones, antibodies and free radical scavengers.

MSM is a natural substance that gives relief from joint pain, inflammation and allergies. MSM has gained considerable recognition for its results in relieving arthritis. Two actors, James Coburn and Robert Culp have played an important role in educating the public through media broadcasting about the benefits of MSM and how it has changed their quality of life.

MSM has been used over and over for the relief of pain, head trauma, interstitial cystitis, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and Alzheimer's disease. MSM makes the cell walls flexible and elastic. If the concentration of MSM in the body is too low, the new cells lose some of their necessary flexibility and elasticity. MSM makes cell walls permeable, allowing water and nutrients to freely flow into cells and allowing wastes and toxins to properly flow out. MSM is a powerful detoxifier. MSM is also nontoxic.

MSM - A Natural Substance

Some people define "natural" as a substance that occurs naturally in the body and in plants. By that definition, MSM is natural. The raw material used to produce MSM is of natural origin. So it is true that MSM is produced from natural sources. MSM is a natural food substance and is not at all harmful to the body in any way. MSM is neither a medicine or a drug. MSM is a member of the sulfur family but should not be confused with sulfa drugs, to which some people are allergic. MSM is non-allergenic and does not interfere with any other pharmaceutical drugs or supplements.

MSM is also called organic sulfur. MSM the sulfur compound is a nutrient found in the human diet and the natural diets of virtually all other vertebrates. MSM is part of the amino acid chain and without the proper amount of MSM in our bodies, the amino acids will continue to build the glands, but fail to produce the correct enzymes, making us prone to unnecessary illness. MSM is the flexible bond between proteins. When a cell dies, a new cell takes its place. Without the needed amount of MSM, it attaches but becomes rigid. When body tissues lose their flexibility, problems develop with the lungs and other parts of the body.

MSM stands for Methylsulfonylmethane, a stable odorless metabolite of DMSO. MSM cleans the blood. MSM is less toxic than water. In its purified form, it is an odorless white crystal with a slightly bitter taste and looks very much like table sugar.

MSM sulfur belongs in the same chemical family as oxygen, and in oxygen depleted environments, sulfur often replaces oxygen as the source of chemical energy upon which life thrives. MSM sulfur is a dietary supplement which does not require a prescription. MSM detoxifies the body and increases blood circulation. Because there are few nerves in the bones, arthritic pain comes from the soft tissue. Aspirin does shut off the nerves, but the muscles are still damaged. MSM takes out the inflammation, permits the muscles to heal and prevents them from becoming sore.

MSM Helps With Arthritis

MSM reduces the swelling that causes pain. MSM reduces allergies to food and pollens, helps the liver produce chorine, controls acidity in stomach and ulcers, coats intestinal tract so that parasites lose the ability to hang on, it helps with hypersensitivity to drugs, it increases the body's ability to produce insulin, and is important for carbohydrate metabolism and speeds wound healing.

Why would we need MSM supplements? To get rid of pain! MSM is so effective that doctors are often able to reduce their patients' medication dosage. Some can even sometimes discontinue their medications and replace them with MSM sulfur. The proper acid alkaline PH balance of the body cannot be maintained without sulfur. Sulfur is vital to the creation and regeneration of the body's tissues. Sulfur is an essential component in human nutrition. It is found in every cell in the body. Sulfur itself is held mainly in the muscles, skin, bones, nails and hair. MSM provides the essential sulfur necessary for a number of body compounds.

MSM is used around the world for relief from arthritis, muscle pain, joint pain and inflammation. MSM is a nutritional mineral that can also help to normalize the immune system. MSM has anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties, and can block pain response in nerve fibers. MSM also can reduce scar tissue by altering the cross linking process in collagen to allow tissue repair and healing to take place.

MSM May Cause Some Detoxification Symptoms At First
(MSM did this for me - I felt weaker and more tired than usual. It didn't last long, a week or two, and the pain was gone shortly after....and the energy! Wow!)

In the first 2 weeks of taking MSM, some people may experience negative detoxification symptoms . During that period toxins are flushed from the system. Detoxification symptoms may include diarrhea, skin rash and or possible headache along with fatigue. In general, the more intense the symptoms the more toxins there are in the body and the more MSM is needed for detoxification. To reduce toxic symptoms start with a lower dose. (We started at 2 pills 2 X a day.....hubby now says we should have started at 5 pills 2 X per day!)

Not all MSM is created equal. Different production processes yield different degrees of purity. "OptiMSM" is the premium brand of MSM preferred by manufacturers who care about quality. There are 2 methods by which MSM is purified. Those two methods are crystallization and distillation.

The cheaper MSM on the market is processed through crystallization and you do get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't always best. Cheaper MSM means you will not get the best result from MSM because you are using a product that is contaminated by other impurities. Crystallization is a lower cost process, but increases the risk of producing an impure product. Purity achieved by crystallization depends on the quality of the local water and other materials used in the manufacturing process. A crystal inherently contains occlusions where these water based impurities can become entrapped. This is of great concern in countries such as India and China, where water quality and sanitation is known to not meet the higher U.S. standards. Heavy metals and other impurities have been reported in Chinese and Indian water supplies and dietary supplements.

MSM purified by distillation uses heat instead of water to separate the by-products and impurities of the manufacturing process. Distillation, a more cost intensive process, ensures that the final product contains only pure MSM. "OptiMSM" is not a crystal, it contains no occlusions to trap impurities. Just as water is distilled for purity, so is "OptiMSM". Choose MSM supplements made with "OptiMSM" when you want to be positively sure that your MSM is pure.

When buying MSM, you will find that some labels will read "pure OptiMSM" but you can still be fooled because of advertising claims. Watch out for waxy, fatty substances like "Magnesium Stearate" that could be added into your MSM supplement. Read your label carefully! You don't want to be buying an MSM supplement with additives and fillers.

MSM is rapidly gaining a reputation as a natural solution for pain, as more and more people become aware of the risks in taking the over the counter pain relievers and prescription medications. Medical authorities continually caution physicians and patients with regards to the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers known as NSAIDs.

These pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, etc... are believed to be responsible for more than 76,000 hospitalizations each year due to gastrointestinal bleeding. An estimated 41,000 hospitalizations and 3,300 deaths involving the elderly are attributed annually to NSAIDs.

MSM can also play an important role in a good mercury detoxification program because of its ability to make the cell walls more permeable. I take several grams of MSM every day as part of my ongoing mercury detoxification program. I spend a lot of time researching the best prices for supplements on the internet and in my opinion, the lowest price for high quality MSM can be found here. I also like Puritan Pride's special "Buy 1 Get 2 FREE" promotions on MSM.

You may also want to explore glucosamine. Glucosamine is recognised - even by JAMA - as a supplement that is beneficial for joint pain.

We love MSM - no pain....NO PAIN! It's just too bizarre to believe sometimes....
